Current Legislative Agenda for 2013-2014

House and Senate Bills currently pending in the Michigan Legislature that could have an effect on your workers’ compensation benefits.

Here are some currently pending workers’ compensation bills that we are watching.

Senate Bill 0161 (2013) would eliminate specific authority to refuse reimbursement for certain chiropractic services. Sponsored by Senators Mike Nofs and Mark Jansen. Referred to the Committee on Insurance.

Senate Bill 0211 (2013) would provide a presumption for certain firefighters who developed cancer. Sponsored by Senators Tory Rocca, Morris Hood, Rick Jones, Mike Nofs, Hoon-Yung Hopgood , Glenn Anderson, Steven Bieda. This legislation was reported favorable out of the Judiciary Committee on April 24, 2013.

Senate Bill 0387 (2013) expands employee definition to include reserve and auxiliary officers. Sponsored by Senator Tonya Schuitmaker. This bill was passed by the Senate on October 16, 2013. It has now been referred to the Committee on Commerce in the House.

House Bill 4726 (2013) increases the amount available for burial expenses from $6,000.00 to $8,500.00. Sponsored by Representatives Theresa Abed, Sam Singh, Robert L. Kosowski, George T. Darany, Rose Mary C. Robinson, Henry Yanez, Pam Faris, Brian Banks, Marcia Hovey-Wright, Sarah Roberts, Martin Howrylak. Referred to the Committee on Commerce.
